ASHOKA and DEVI....the royals

ashok shut the door of his room and forcefully made her sit in the bed. devi was scared at her nerves of what happened some moments ago and now her husbands anger. but to her amusement he took out a herbal creme and applied it on her neck.
ashok : just wish this wouldn't be a permanent scare...
devi : i...
ashok : don't say a thing , just rest we have to leave tomorrow morning.
it was hard for her to predict his mood , with her he always smiles totally different from his demonic form , sometimes he says rude things , don't show any respect to his own father and sometimes can give his own life for magadha.
ashok : if u think about me , you wouldn't able to sleep . ashok shrugged still eyes closed but know her thoughts and her innocence.

the very next morning ,  kashyap and suman with charumitra has left for gandhar, kayavat with his wife and mother has left to his capital , now only sushim and ashok was there to leave , there wives extra packing was the reason of the longest wait. when bindusaar came to dharma with a shocking news.
bindusaar : dharma , you know the ritulas na , when childrens are shifted to new homes there mother has to go there for some time , to tell them home making , and our rituals.

dharma : yes ! and i already packed my belongings to go with ashok .

bindusaar : you are not going with ashok but with sushim , samraagi had left with suman , someone has to go with sushim too , so you go .

dharma : and what about ashok ? her eyes had tears , it happens always because of bindusaar she has to choose sushim over ashok .

bindusaar : i have already made the arrangements  rajbadhu asandhimitra's maternal grandmother is a hindu , and lives in gwalior she will go with them , and help rajbadhu in her new home .

dharma didn't answer her husband , just head to ashok's room to make him more sad.

ashok : why this always happened ? your husband everytime spoil my happiness .....i was soo happy finally we could live happily in our home and now , you are not coming.

dharma : i will come , when my grandchild will come .

ashok : i will come to take you.

the mother son duo hugged each other tight as dharma noticed an uneasy face on devi .

dharma : go take final blessings from acharya , i will bring devi in main entrance.

when ashok leaved the room she noticed asandhimitra tired early morning.

dharma : what happened to you , my daughter.
devi : this jewellery is so heavy mother.

dharma : i know , but you are the queen of ujjaini , you have to be adore with ujjaini's royal jewels.....and one more thing here is the list , of ashok's favourite foods and the things he is allergic too ......one more thing , he catches cold very easily in monsoons take care of him ok ,

he kissed her daughters forehead , who was now more tensed .

outside the palace stood a beautiful white elephant , decor with jewels , very powerful and strong , beside him stood 12 mesmerizing horse ,  some bullocks with royal seal of avanti , a whole bunch of maids and senaiks , all eyes on asandhimitra as ashok give her his hand on stairs and she accepted.
sushim has already left so that he doesn't have to face ashok one more time.

and then with there final goodbyes ashok helped her over the royal elephant and sit beside her. siamak was the new senapati of avanti and 3 more brothers of ashok from bindusaar's concubines got there place in avantis court , acharya akarmak , all got up in the horse as bullocks , maids , bare foot senaik followed the royals of avanti.

asandhimitra : its scary. ( she whispered in his ears )
ashok : what ?
asandhi : i never rode in an elephant .
ashok : don't be scared he is my friend , jampa .
asandhi : ok ....
ashok : now , tell me the real reason of your tension , i am noticing you from morning.
asandhimitra : is it ok ? i m sitting beside you.
ashok : yes , or where will you sit , you are my consort , you will be with me .
asandhimitra : but i m a commoner .
ashok : you was a commoner , until i married you , now queen of avanti , tension doesn't suites you.
asandhimitra : what if people doesn't like me as your consort.
ashok : if anyone disrespects you for your birth caste , he isn't disrespecting you but the whole maurya vansh , you are my wife , the daughter in law of mauryas , and your respect means ours.
asandhimitra : is it true that after marriage womens caste , religion and everything changes to her husband in hindu dharma .
ashok : yes and according to that now you doesn't belong to shakya clan of buddhist but kshtriya clan of hindus , its only i allowed you to worship buddha , but not everyone do this.
he winked at her , she looked away with a blush.

there day journey ended in gwalior towards an asharm , reaching there siamak rushed for food counter and devi dragged ashok towards an old home of widows belong to her granny.
she rushed inside while ashok moved slowly learning his surroundings , but was shocked to see a parrot sitting in the main room and singing.
parrot : " the most beautiful is kani "
a giggling sound from the widow asahram's , devi was hugging an old women , who was hundred times more happy then asandhimitra.

ashok looked at her from head to toe , she was old white hairs , wrinkled skin but glowing , he couldn't help but noticed same features and smile as her wife . the old lady noticed his stares .
granny : so , you married my daughter .
ashok : pranam . ( he went to touch her feets but the old lady was more young)
granny : how dare you , are you telling me that i am old by touching my feets.
ashok : i....i( he looked at devi for help but she just smiled )
granny : i am more beautiful then your wife come give me a hug .
with the hug ashok knows his life is gonna be strict under this young granny .

the next morning , they decided to go as fast as they can to reach ujjaini before sunset. in the afternoon finally they reached ujjaini , devi was more happy then anyone her new home was in front of her , the royal palace of ujjaini was a mesmerzing palace , stood tall in a yellowish paint with red curtains flowing high on the sky, the path was decorated with flowers , the mukhiya , samanth of each village or town under avanti was there to welcome there royal couple .

ujjaini was god blessed capital , with various temples , vihars and jain temples , it was asandhimitra dream city , she wanted to visit here once but never got the chance infact before her marriage sanchi was the only place she ever visited . ashok helped her down from jampa , jampa was a smart elephant he knows about his mistress , he bowed down to her as she patted .

the head priest and head monk came ahead for there welcome , king ashok excepted it with a pleasant smile , but devi has already noticed the sadness and anger in jain priest and peoples face they are feeling low , because there king was a hindu , hindus will get a special priveledge and there queen was a buddhist means they will get a special priveledge but jains will be throwed out in  a corner.

devi tucked in his arm , telling him to see what she does through eyes , the head priest noticed it .
ashok : i don't think the head priest of jains wants to welcome us .
there kings words made him jump like a baby get his toy back . the hindu priest who was till now developed a hate for devi was now smiled to each other getting to know they were wrong.

after 2 weeks,

its been 2 weeks of sushim's injuries , he had stopped meeting everyone and only allows his mother , aradi and virat his 2 year old son to be near him . virat is quiet happy to see his father play with him the whole day. while sushim not feel a percent of shame to hit his wife but aradi knows she is the only mental support sushim has. with the phyiscal abuse still there relationship is the best in the whole palace until ashok has married devi.

it was noon , ashok hadn't saw devi since the morning as he was busy his work from last 2 weeks making it impossible to talk to her. he entered the room shocked to see all the curtains down , the room was a pitch black and a soft silent sobs made his heart flutter .
silently , he walked over to asandhimitra and placed his hand on her head.
ashok : something you wanted to tell me.
asandhimitra : when you arrived....you didn't informed me. says hiding her own visible tears.
ashok : don't you dare lie to me . say what happened .
devi : nothing .


ashok : DEVI , I HAVE NO PATIENCE. he shouted top of his voice scaring the whole home.
devi : i....i...i can't live here. scared of his anger and her in-laws treatment finally she broked into his arms , feeling the pain and insult she recevied in this 2 weeks.
ashok : what happened , tell me .
devi : no one likes me here , except you and mother .....father only shows respect because of the baby i m going to give this family , and rest of the peoples , no one even talks to me , empress has said a clear no to me to enter the kitchen .....she says i will spoil its purity.....i want to go back , to the peoples of mine , you know in vedisanagari , everyone treats me so well ......i want to go away .


ashok was scared for this day , he knew his family members are not insulting devi for her caste but for her beauty , the unreasonable love she is receving from him , his jealous family members can't see ashok's happiness , and his happiness is asandhimitra.
ashok : devi , a little time dear, the court has already decided that it is time to set the viceroys of each states and i know i will be selected , after we will go somewhere else , to our home . okay , and promise me that you will not talk about leaving me ever.
she nodded a no with her head , as he stole her lips for a kiss.


before the sunset , it is the time for the final court , where what will happen tomorrow is declared , this court has only mens , much to everyone's happiness they doesn't have to see the shrwed empress here.
bindusaar : its time for the announcement of the four aryaputra ( viveroy ) of four provisions .
the four provisions are avanti - capital ujjaini , takshila , gandhara , vhidarvan .
the aryaputra of vhidarvan will be prince kayavat . the aryaputra of gandhara will be prince kashyap , the aryaputra of takshila will be crown prince sushim , and the aryaputra of avanti will be prince ashok .


bindusaar's declaration shocked everyone , prince kayavat is a very good politician and warrior he will be aryaputra no doubt , bindusaar love is daughter suman and everyone knows of prince kashyap's patriotism , but crown prince getting a small provision from his young brother is something to gossip in , indirectly the council members proved that ashok is the only one handling a big state as avanti ( todays madhya pradesh , half maharashtra , gujrat , and half rajasthan ) .


and on top of that as chamanagari lies in avanti his mothers place and vedisanagari too being there it will be easier for ashok to rule over there .
everyone was greeting the new aryaputra and greeting were send to there will be queens.
sushim : ( to himself ) smile ashok , but after tonight you wouldn't able to smile forever .



devi was the happiest person in the earth today as aradi , kayavat wife was finally they will be going to there own home . enough of the stupid rules of charumitra.
champa : what happened to you today .
devi : champa , pack all the things , first clothes and jewellaries , when aryaputra will come then i will pack his books and all things.


dharma was already slept as tushyapa was , ashok was late as usaual but a knock in the main door and a smile on her lips .
she got open the door herself to congratulate him , but to her shock it was sushim in the doors , immadietly she lowered her eyes , and covered her head with her chunri . (wife is not allowed to talk to  husband's elder brother or father as rituals ).
sushim walked a inch close to her as she moved back . he was staring at her in a red saree , she was shining in the moonlight , her eyes has a sparkle but she was still looking down . and silently moving towards dhrama room to wake her up .


sushim : wake up chooti ma , i have to talk to her .
sushim is a coward can not even hurt a lady in her face . as she faced dharma door he placed his sword over her neck . and held her hands for hiis own safety measures
devi : what is this .
sushim : sword , if you wouldn't be alive , how will your son will come in this life.
he placed the sword more tightly making her skin got a small cut , a small drop of blood falled in her fair skin , but before he could tighten it more , in no seconds he was flying in the air .
ashok : how dare you , do this .
devi : swami , her face lit up seeing him arrive with siamak and kashyap . but ashok had seen the small drop of her blood , his own blood boiled seeing a single cut in his beloved.


in no moments , sushim has met his demon brother , eyes red , ashok every muscle shown clearly in the moon light as he removed his uttariya , for a clear punishment.
and made sushim stand up pulling his collar , punch after punch , sushim now joined muscles and bones was again in danger.
hearing the noice everyone came to see a horrified sushim running away from ashok black and blue and red too , and ashok was in no mood of leaving him .
bindusaar has already know what happened seeing devi scared in sharma and subhrasi arm , her neck has  a cut , and sushim fallen sword has blood .
charumitra made her move to stop ashok but in vain , sushim was leing in floor tired of sorries , and ashok was still in his demonic form . but before ashok could kill his brother , a crying virat has already came for his father's safety. hugging him .
virat : plzz , don't kill father  , plzz , .....i m sorry.
ashok can't refuse a 2 year old pleadings , and his regular sobbings , he just placed a hand in virat's head and leaved sushim .


charumitra : now , tell me why you was hurting my son .
but ashok just hold devi's upper arm and forcefully took her with him upstairs .
bindusaar : ashok , stop .
but he didn't ,
kashyap and siamak told everyone about what sushim did .
and bindusaar declared his punishment to be given in court tomorrow.
